Vision Up • 7 October 2023

Art exhibitions, otherwise known as paintings on walls to look at… except this one isn’t like that. From October 7th 2023, UpCo in Otley will host an exhibition of art made around the theme of looking at things differently, and specifically through visual impairment: work that can be seen, touched and stroked, even art to be looked at in the dark. This is three artists playing with how art can be experienced – landscapes, reliefs, tactile surfaces that invite you to do more than just look.

There will be a Vision Up opening with all three artists and live music on Saturday 7th Ocotber. Then on Thursday 26th October Vision Up will continue the show’s theme with an evening concert by comedian and member of the Young ‘Uns David Eagle. And on November 9th, artist and teacher Shane Green will lead a drawing and painting class that will encourage us to look differently, playing with darkness to find new approaches to making work.

The three artists are Shane Green, Jim Adamson and Mick Jaques.

Limited tickets for the David Eagle concert available in the UpCo shop.

Glasgow singer-songwriter Findlay Napier will play a show at UpCo on November 17th. One of Scotland's finest songwriters. In 2021 he was nominated for Musician of the Year at the Scot’s Trad Music Awards and in 2018 he was the first solo act to be nominated for Live Act of the Year. Described as Micheal Marra meets Elvis Costello, a Caledonian Loudon Wainwright or a Scottish James Taylor, this master storyteller's songs are full of earthy humour, hopeless love and biting satire. Findlay is currently touring as part of Magpie Arc and his appearance at UpCo will be a rare treat – we love him, and so will you...
